Q. Are spare irons and/or heating elements available for this solder station? Or is it scrap as soon as the element burns out?

ATTEN ST-100 - Top Station!

After a lot of research I decided on soldering stations for the ATTEN ST-100 and was not disappointed!
In contrast to many other manufacturers (Weller, Ersa, Hakko, Sunshine, ... etc.) the station is unbeatable in the price-performance ratio. Important for me was the heat coupling from the heating element to the soldering tip. In contrast to others this is well solved with the ATTEN ST-100. There is from Atten also the ST-80 or ST-60 but here another heating element is used which does not allow optimal heat transfer.
I can only recommend the station.

I have been thinking of buying an Atten soldering station for a while, because they seem to have good specs for the price. I originally was thinking of the ST-80 but did see a review that criticised it's slow response to tip temperature changes. I think this is probably due to the large thermal mass of the tips. After a lot of thought I decided to plump for the ST-100 which, although quite a lot more expensive is compatible with Weller LT series tips, so the iron itself is obviously quite different in design to the ST-60 and ST-80. Also I have in the past used a Weller LT type iron and found it very responsive.
I am very pleased I went for the ST-100, I'd say it performs as well as the Weller but is about half the price. It is very easy to set up and having access to Weller tips is an added bonus.
